A loan of $3,875 helped a member to buy house-building materials and to pay the school fees of his children.

Sorie A.i.'s Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni City in Northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to introduce to you this group of teachers from Lunsar, a town on the highway between Makeni City and Freetown.

Teachers within SMT’s operational areas apply for loans in order to meet their immediate financial challenges that their salaries alone cannot. At the end of each month, they use their monthly salaries to offset the loan. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for doing the deductions each month and repays SMT/Kiva lenders on their behalf.

Sorie is the leader of this group of teachers. The 51 year old is a native of one of the several villages that make up Yoni Bama, located in Northern Sierra Leone. He is married and has four children who are attending schools and tertiary institutions. Sorie is a teacher and has been in the teaching profession for almost 33 years now. Sorie has applied for this loan in order to buy house-building materials such as bags of cement and to pay the school fees of his children.

In this group: Sorie A.i., Alfred A. , Ramatu , Agnes J. , Idrissa , Foday , Antigie S., Sulliaman A., Mohamed K., Mariatu , Ibrahim , Osman , Ibrahim M
