A loan of $725 helped a member to buy farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Bidii Farmers Group's story

Greetings from the Bidii Farmers Group in Western Kenya! It is headed by Daniel as the facilitator of the group. This group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program. Daniel takes care of six children at home. He joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough to feed his family and access fertilizer and hybrid seeds. In the recent 2011 season, Daniel had a good maize yield harvesting 16 bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, he was only able to harvest 10 bags of maize on that land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Daniel and his group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs such as fertilizer and seed is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which also includes training, credit, and insurance.

With the income from maize sales, he will educate his children and invest in livestock rearing. In 2012, the members of Bidii Farmers group will each plant between one half and one acre of maize.

In this group: Christine, Catherine, Truphena, Daniel, Dorcus, Emily, Catherine, Mary
