A loan of $425 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Matisi Shg Group's story

Vincent is the facilitator of the Matisi SHG group. Vincent and his group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Vincent takes care of six children at home. He joined One Acre Fund due to One Acre Fund’s best prices and in order to ensure food security for his family. In the recent 2011 season, Vincent had an excellent maize yield, harvesting 8 ½ bags on ½ an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Vincent was only able to harvest 2 ½ bags of maize on ½ acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Vincent and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Vincent will educate his children and save for the future.

In 2012, the members of Matisi SHG group will each plant maize plots of between ½ and 1 acre of land.
