A loan of $775 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Simana Shg Group's story

Greetings from Simana SHG Group in Western Kenya! Jackline is the facilitator of the Simana SHG group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Jackline takes care of five children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough to feed her family and access fertilizer and hybrid seeds to ensure good farm yield. In the recent 2011 season, she had a good maize yield harvesting 6 bags on 1/2 an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Jackline was only able to harvest 3 bags of maize on 1/2 an acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Jackline and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Jackline will educate her children, ensure food security and invest in livestock rearing. In 2012, the members of Simana SHG group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

In this group: David, Benson, Elizabeth, Jackline, Johnstone, Margret, Metrine, Rose
