María Mercedes's story

Señora Maria is a member of the community bank "Espori Mi Bankito." She lives in the community of Nabon in the city of Cuenca, a place that is surrounded by vegetation and beautiful landscapes and where they breathe the air of peace and tranquility. Its people work in farming and raising animals. Many travel to the city every day to perform different types of work.

Señora Maria is 45 years old. She is the single mother of children ages 24, 22, 18, 16, 13, 10, and 8. Her two oldest children work to cover their personal expenses. Her third and fifth children are in secondary school, and her fourth is in secondary school and also works. Her two youngest children are in primary school. The house in which she lives is her own.

Every day she travels from her community to the city for her business, since she sells seafood. She has worked in this business for 13 years. She works every day of the week, and her working hours are from 7 in the morning to 6 in the evening.

She is in her third loan cycle in her community bank, and she will invest her new loan in the purchase of seafood such as fish, shrimp, lobsters, oysters, etc., so that she can continue with this business.

Her goals are to enlarge her house and to construct an industrial mechanical workshop so that her sons can work in their own business.
