A loan of $1,200 helped to buy maize, firewood, meat, rice and vegetables.

Marlene's story

Marlene is 51 years old, she is married and she has 5 children, all economically independent. She is a retailer and she engages in selling meals and “nactamales” (typical dish made of maize, meat and rice wrapped in banana leaf), something she has been doing for 18 years. She started her activity with her own money and with some help form her husband. She began by buying ingredients for her nactamales, and she was 33 when she started. She had been previously running a corner shop but she decided to close it to engage in selling this typical delicious dish.
She is requesting a loan to buy maize, firewood, meat, vegetables and rice, as these are the main ingredients she uses to prepare her really tasty nactamales. One of her future projects is to finish building her house as it is a bit dilapidated and to invest in improving her activity.
