The group, San Miguel, was formed thanks to various friends and neighbors in the city of Santani. These women all take care of families, and shared the goal of generating income to help support their families. They are all working enthusiastically within the program, "enterprising women" within the foundation and they want to reach the highest level they can.

One of these women is Lourdes, who thanks to her hard work and sacrifice has been able to help improve the quality of life for her family. Lourdes raises pigs and hens, which has helped generate income for the daily household expenses. She says her work is very hard but she would like to continue growing her business. Her portion of the loan will be used to buy small hens to raise and sell, and to purchase feed for her pigs.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
