Angelica's story

Angelica is a member of the 'Villa Unida' community bank which is located in San Javier, in the city of Talca. She is a shopkeeper and has run a grocery store and off licence for 14 years. Angelica's premises are located on one side of her house. She says that her business is doing very well, despite the competition in her area.

Angelica's opening hours are from Monday to Sunday, from 10.00am to 02.00am. She buys her merchandise from suppliers who come directly to her home. She also visits wholesalers. She will use her loan to buy building materials to fix the roof of her premises. She will also buy merchandise with which to stock her business. Her business goals are to improve the infrastructure of her premises so that she can be more comfortable.

Angelica lives together with her two children and a 9-year-old grandson. Her children are finishing their university degree courses and she feels very proud of what they have managed to achieve as a result of her hard work.

Angelica is very happy and grateful for the opportunity that Fondo Esperanza have given her as it has allowed her to invest in her business. She also feels very comfortable with the meetings of her community bank as it is a very united, committed and responsible group.

San Javier is a district and city in the central area of Chile, in Maule region. It is noted for being essentially a wine-growing area. The local vineyards are in an area called 'Valle del Loncomilla' where some of the best Chilean wines come from (Viña Carolina, Viña Gillmore and others).
