A loan of $2,425 helped a member to buy perfume, creams, and cosmetics.

Las Orquideas (Cuenca) Group's story

The Las Orquídeas [The Orchids] communal bank has seven members: six women and one man. They live in different areas in Cuenca city. This city is known as the city of La Santa Ana de los Cuatro Rios. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage city in 1999. Its people maintain their culture and traditions. They are very kind, warm-hearted people, and our group members are no exception. They are strong, hard-working people who sacrifice themselves daily to provide for their families.

Mrs. Maria Ines is a member of this group. She is 23, in a common-law marriage, and has one five-year-old daughter who attends school in the city. Her husband is a taxi driver. They do not have their own home; they rent.

Mrs. Maria Ines does the housework and cares for her young daughter. In her free time she sells various brands of cosmetics. She works without a fixed schedule, and sells her products to her friends and acquaintances.

She will invest this loan in the purchase of perfume, creams, and cosmetics in order to have a greater variety of products.

Her goal is to have her own home.
