Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $550 helped to buy a greater variety of clothes.

Candelaria De Jesús's story

Candelaria is 44 years old, married, and has two children.

She has been selling clothing in a market near her house for nine years now. Before that, Candelaria was a housewife, but she decided to do a different kind of work to help her husband with their expenses and a friend offered her the opportunity to sell with her in her stall. In time she set up her own business buying and selling clothes for the whole family.

Candelaria has to travel to the country's capital once a week to buy merchandise at a lower price. She will use the loan she is asking for to buy a greater variety of clothes for the whole family. This will put different clothing items at her disposal, which will help her get more customers and increase her sales, which will generate more income for her family. Candelaria wants to have a bigger space in which to sell her merchandise.
