A loan of $725 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Lukova Group's story

Joshua is the facilitator of the Lukova group. Joshua and his group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program. He joined One Acre Fund to access One Acre Fund’s best prices, to ensure food security for his family and later educate them. In the recent 2011 season, Joshua had a very good maize yield harvesting seven bags on ½ acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Joshua was only able to harvest two bags of maize on ½ acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Joshua and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from his maize sales, Joshua will educate his children, build a house and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Lukova group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1 acre of land.

In this group: Beatrice, Gabriel, Hudson, Jacob, Joshua, Margret, Rosoa, Joan, Sofia, Wycliffe
