A loan of $1,000 helped to buy more clothes for resale.

Joy's story

Joy is 48 years old and lives in the town of Bugembe in the Jinja region of Uganda. She is married and has five children, two of whom are currently in school. For the past four years, Joy has been working hard to manage her small shop, which sells clothes. To help expand her business, Joy has requested a loan of 2,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more clothes for resale, and will help Joy to generate greater profits, which will help her pay the school fees for her children. Joy hopes that in the future she will be able to own a wholesale shop. Joy is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs, like Joy, who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
