A loan of $575 helped to buy construction materials (beams, stone, cement, sand, iron, etc.) to build her house.

Helena's story

Helena was born in the district of Boane, in the province of Maputo in southern Mozambique. She is married and has three children, two of whom are married and one of whom is still in school. She went to school through the tenth grade but had to drop out because of her parents' financial difficulties. She lives in her own home with her family, and also supports a niece who lives with them.
She's worked at the Pequenos Libombos Dam for more than 10 years and earns a salary of 2,495 meticals a month. She uses her earnings for household expenses and is able to save some in her bank account (BIM). She had a loan from another bank (BIM), which she paid off without any problems. She learned about Hluvuku from a friend who is also a client of the institution. This is her third loan, in the amount of 15,000 meticals, which she will use to buy construction materials (beams, stone, cement, sand, iron, etc.) to build her house. Her first loans were in the amounts of 10,000 and 15,000 meticals, both of which she also used for her home. She is committed to paying off this loan without any problems and in the future intends to ask for further loans from Hluvuku to finish and furnish her house and pay for her daughter's studies.
