A loan of $850 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Mulimani C Young Group's story

Greetings from Mulimani C Young Group in Western Kenya! Diana is the facilitator of the Mulimani C Young group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Diana takes care of seven children at home. She joined One Acre Fund due to One Acre Fund's best prices and in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, she had a good maize yield, harvesting 10 1/2 bags on 3/4 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Diana was only able to harvest 3 bags of maize on 3/4 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Diana and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Diana will ensure food security and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Mulimani C Young group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.
