A loan of $450 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Kibisi W.g. Group's story

Elizabeth is the facilitator of the Kibisi W.G. group. Elizabeth and her group joined Kiva partner One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.
Elizabeth joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, she had an excellent maize yield harvesting twenty-two bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Elizabeth was only able to harvest eight bags of maize on one acre of land.
With income from maize sales, Elizabeth will educate her children and build a house. With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Elizabeth and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit, and insurance.
In 2012, the members of Kibisi W.G. group will each plant maize plots between half and one acre of land.
