A loan of $950 helped to buy ten rolls of different colors of fabric.

Helena's story

Helena is a member of the Kapia Marca communal bank in the district and province of Yunguyo in the Puno department. She is a 48 year old widow. She has four children; two of them are independent. She has worked with the Movimiento Manuela R. for six years. Her first loan was for 300 soles, which she invested in her business of selling sweets, handicrafts, and fabrics. She will request a new loan for 2,500 soles in order to buy ten rolls of different colors of fabric to sell in the city of Arequipa. Her dream for the future is to have more capital, to have a stand where she can get more customers, and to improve her income. What she likes the most about her communal bank are the jokes from the members and the chance to save.
