A loan of $750 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Kisawayi B Group's story

Greetings from Kisawayi B Group in Western Kenya! Immaculate is the facilitator of the Kisawayi B group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program. Immaculate takes care of six children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to have additional maize profits to send her children to school. In the recent 2011 season, Immaculate had a very good maize yield harvesting 7 1/2 bags on 1/2 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Immaculate was only able to harvest 1 1/2 bags of maize on 1/2 acre of land. With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Immaculate and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance. With income from her maize sales, Immaculate will educate her children, ensure food security and invest in livestock rearing. In 2012, the members of Kisawayi B group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.
