A loan of $1,500 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Nasyoya Group's story

Greetings from Nasyoya Group in Western Kenya! Felisters is the facilitator of the Nasyoya group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Felisters takes care of four children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Felisters had an excellent maize yield harvesting eight bags on 1/2 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Felisters was only able to harvest two bags of maize on 1/2 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Felisters and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from her maize sales, Felisters will educate her children.

In 2012, the members of Nasyoya group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

In this group: Felisters, Martha, John, Richard, Miriam, Margaret, Mary
