A loan of $1,075 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Lutaso Star Group's story

Jacton is the facilitator of the Lutaso Star group. His group joined Kiva partner One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.
Jacton takes care of thirteen children at home. He joined One Acre Fund to access affordable loans and to ensure food security for his family. In the recent 2011 season, Jacton had an excellent maize yield harvesting twenty-two bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Jacton was only able to harvest fifteen bags of maize on one acre of land.
With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Jacton and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit, and insurance.
With income from maize sales, Jacton will educate his children and invest in livestock rearing. In 2012, the members of Lutaso Star group will each plant maize plots between half and one acre of land.
