A loan of $1,050 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Kibeu Shg Group's story

Greetings from Kibeu SHG Group in Western Kenya! This group joined Kiva partner One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.
Pamela is the facilitator of the Kibeu SHG group. She takes care of nine children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and to have additional maize profits to educate her children. In the recent 2011 season, Pamela had an excellent maize yield harvesting thirteen bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Pamela was only able to harvest three bags of maize on one acre of land.
With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Pamela and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit, and insurance.
With income from maize sales, Pamela will educate her children and invest in livestock rearing.
Pamela is pictured with her group members in the photograph.
