A loan of $1,125 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Kikai Complex Group's story

Pamela is the facilitator of the Kikai Complex group. Her group joined Kiva partner One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.
Pamela takes care of four children at home. She joined One Acre Fund due to One Acre Fund’s best prices. In the recent 2011 season, Pamela had an excellent maize yield harvesting seven and a half bags on half an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Pamela was only able to harvest three and a half bags of maize on half an acre of land.
With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Pamela and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit, and insurance.
With income from maize sales, Pamela will invest in livestock rearing. In 2012, the members of Kikai Complex group will each plant maize plots between half and one acre of land.
In the photograph above, Pamela is pictured with her group members. The field officer appears on the far left of the picture.
