A loan of $675 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Star B Group's story

Greetings from Star B Group in Western Kenya! Emily is the facilitator of the Star B group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Emily takes care of seven children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access quality farm inputs and have additional maize profits to educate her children. In the recent 2011 season, Emily had a very good maize yield harvesting 15 bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Emily was only able to harvest 3 1/2 bags of maize on one acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Emily and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from her maize sales, Emily will build a house and ensure food security.

Emily is pictured with her group members in the photograph above.
