Sobeida's story

Ms. Sobeida belongs to the communal bank "Amor y Paz" [Love and Peace] of the district and province of Moyobamba, department of San Martín. She is 35 years old, in a committed relationship, and has two children, one who is 16 and attending the fifth year of post-elementary school, and the other child, who is 17, is working.

From a very early age she has devoted herself to selling barbeque snacks (traditional fare). When she had her children, she found herself in need of continuing to work to support the household economy. Her partner devotes himself to providing transportation services by moto-car. She started off with 50 Peruvian soles in capital. Currently she devotes herself to selling barbeque and dishes such as juanes [stuffed rice tamales] and chaufa rice as well as fruit drinks.

With this loan of 300 Peruvian soles she will purchase products such as chicken, beef, seasoning, rice and sugar by the kilogram, oil in liters, bunches of bananas, bags of charcoal for her grills, and kitchen implements in order to gain new customers and keep them satisfied.

Sobeida is a determined and enterprising woman. Her dream is to have a larger business with greater variety. She is very grateful to Movimiento Manuela Ramos for bringing her this opportunity to grow.
