A loan of $575 helped a member to buy farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Lurare Group's story

Adelide is the facilitator of the Lurare group. Adelide and her group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Adelide takes care of six children at home. She joined One Acre Fund to get One Acre Fund's low prices, to ensure food security for her family, and, later, to educate them. In the recent 2011 season, Adelide had an excellent maize yield harvesting five and a half bags on half an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Adelide was only able to harvest one and a half bags of maize on that land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Adelide and her group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs such as fertilizer and seed is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which also includes training, credit, and insurance.

With the income from maize sales, Adelide will educate her children and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Lurare group will each plant maize plots between one half and one acre of land.
