A loan of $1,300 helped a member to buy farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Bidii Group's story

Stephen is the facilitator of the Bidii group. Stephen and his group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Stephen takes care of four children at home. He joined One Acre Fund due to One Acre Fund's low prices and in order to ensure food security for his family. In the recent 2011 season, Stephen had an excellent maize yield harvesting 15 bags on half an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Stephen was only able to harvest two bags of maize on that land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Stephen and his group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs such as fertilizer and seed is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which also includes training, credit, and insurance.

With the income from maize sales, Stephen will educate his children and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Bidii group will each plant maize plots between one half and one acre of land.
