Paula

A loan of $650 helped to buy a stove, supplies and kitchen utensils.

Paula's story

Paula, 55, lives in a common law relationship with her husband. She has a 30-year-old, single son. She lives in a community in the Municipality of Tela, Atlántida.

Paula’s economic activity is baking ‘pan de coco’ bread which is made based on coconut milk. The ‘pan de coco’ is a traditional product typical of the Garífuna culture and is this ethnic group’s main food staple.

She started this business through a group of women who baked bread to generate income. Later, the group disbanded and she decided to continue producing and selling the product because the profits she obtained were attractive. At present, she hires two people to help her distribute the bread.

Paula has requested a loan to buy a stove with a large oven and to buy supplies like coconuts, flour, sugar and margarine as well as kitchen utensils that will facilitate production. In the future, she plans to use profits to expand the business and do some home improvements.
