A loan of $500 helped to buy fabric, lace, sequins, thread, elastic and colored ribbons.

Angelita De La Cruz's story

Angelita is a seamstress by profession but also sells general merchandise. She is 46 years old, married, and has three children. Two of her children are at university and her youngest is in his first year of high school. Angelita has been a dressmaker for more than 20 years. Her mother taught her this trade and it has enabled her to survive. She offers the clothes that she sews both as an itinerant vendor and from her home. She opens the doors of her house, gets out her sewing machine, scissors and thread. This and the resonant noise of her machine form part of her daily work.

Angelita is requesting a loan to buy fabric, lace, sequins, threads, elastic and colored ribbons as she needs raw materials so that she can work and fill the orders that she has. The loan will help her to meet some of her needs. Angelita would like to hire premises in a central area where she can set up a store to sell clothes and general merchandise. She would sell some of the clothes that she sews herself and other general merchandise.
