Celia's story

Celia is a member of the “Bellavista” communal bank in Callería District, Ucayali Department. She’s 45 years old, married and has three children.

During the eight years she’s been working with Manuela Ramos loans she’s been selling ‘churros’ (sweets maD. from ‘manjar blanco’ [a sweet, white spread or pastry filling maD. with milk]) in a school downtown. Her work tool consists of a little cart where she fries the churros and then packages them.

She will use her 2500 new sol loan to buy: 1 package of flour, 2 kilos of butter, 1 box of milk, ½ sack of sugar and a large umbrella she needs to protect herself from the heat.

She does this activity quite far from home so she has to head downtown every day and has to store her cart near where she works and has to pay a fee to store it.

Her husband drives a motor cart and he gives her a riD. to work every day so she saves on transportation costs. She is grateful to Manuela Ramos for giving her the opportunity to continue working and supporting her family.
