A loan of $775 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Progressive B Group's story

Paul is the facilitator of the Progressive B group. Paul and his group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Paul and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

Paul takes care of four children at home. He joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seed and to secure enough food for his family. In the recent 2011 season, Paul had an excellent maize yield harvesting five bags on ½ acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Paul was only able to harvest two bags of maize on ½ acre of land.

With income from his maize sales, Paul will educate his children and save for his business and livestock rearing in the future.

In 2012, the members of Progressive B group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1 acre of land.
