Lourdes Massiel's story

Lourdes is a single mother with a two-year old son. She is 25 and has worked selling clothing for two years. She choose this business because it is profitable and because her sister supports her.

Lourdes is a responsible, hard-working woman who tries hard every day to improve her family's life. She began her business in 2008, and she earns 250 new soles a week. With the loan of 1500 soles that she will receive thanks to Kiva she will purchase merchandise, specifically clothing from this season. Her dream is to have her own home and improve her son's quality of life. Her counselor thinks she is an excellent client.

Lourdes works and lives in the famous Nazca, or Nasca, Perú. The city is well known for the legendary Nazca Lines- a series of ancient, immense and inexplicable geoglyphs etched into the desert surrounding the city generally attributed to the Nazca culture, which inhabited in the region from 300-800 AD. As such, the city attracts a considerable amount of tourism. Nazca is also known for its hardworking people, who have persevered despite frequent earthquakes, tsunamis, and a high level of poverty in the region.
