Martha Emilia's story

Señora Martha is a member of the Medio Ejido Community Bank. She lives in the centre of the city of Cuenca, the third most important city in the country. The people there still continue the culture and traditions of their villages and are known for their friendliness and charm.

Martha is 30 years old, lives with her common-law husband, and has four children aged 13, 11, 8, and 4. Her oldest daughter attends high school, and two of her other children attend primary school. Her husband is a craftsman and makes jewelry. They don’t own a house so live in a rented one.

Martha works with her husband making jewelry such as earrings, rings, chains etc, in silver, stainless steel, and gold. She’s worked in the business for five years and works from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. She also spends time on household duties. Martha has been a member of the community bank for two years. She plans to use her new loan to buy silver, gold, and stainless steel to make more jewelry.

Her goal is to have a house of her own.
