A loan of $750 helped purchase materials to make and decorate mirrors, pictures and mementos.

Madalena's story

Señora Madalena belongs to the communal bank "Amor y Paz" [Love and Peace] in the district and province of Moyobamba in the department of San Martín. She is 31 years old and lives with her partner and 2 daughters, one of whom is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade and her other daughter who is 3 months old. In order to help with the household expenses, she decided to work selling mirrors, pictures and mementos that she herself makes and decorates. Three years ago she attended a Glass of Milk meeting (an organization started to feed poor children). They invited her to take part in a workshop learning how to make and decorate mirrors. With time she has perfected this art. She started this business with 160.00 nuevos soles [Peruvian currency] and now enjoys a good clientele and her business is very profitable. With the new loan of S/. 2000.00 nuevos soles she will buy materials such as glass, mirrors, paint, glue and paperboard boxes. Madalena is a hard-working woman. Her dream is to be able to set up a glass business in her home. She is very grateful to Movimiento Manuela Ramos for giving women like her the opportunity to realize their dreams.
