María Filerma's story

The communal bank of Santo Rosario meets every 15 days in the parish of Andrés De Vera in the city of Portoviejo, capital of Manabí , a city known for many years as the city of the royal tamarinds, a city of temperate and agreable climate and great food. Here we met Señora María who is 56 years old. Twelve years ago her husband died and left her a widow with 2 children. Both are now adults although one of them still lives with her as he is disabled. She is a very determined woman who to make her own income sells snacks, non-carbonated drinks and soft drinks. She has a store in her own house where she sells every day in the afternoon. She works alone and has been in business for more than 6 years which gives her an income to cover her daily expenses and in addition keeps her busy so that she forgets her problems. She will use this loan to buy soft drinks, energy drinks, water and snacks. She has been a member of the communal bank since its beginning and she likes it because meeting with colleagues is entertaining. Her dream is that her child recover and walk again.
