A loan of $1,275 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Star A Group's story

Francis takes care of seven children at home. In the recent 2011 season, Francis had an excellent maize yield harvesting 12 ½ bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Francis was only able to harvest 10 bags of maize on one acre of land. He joined One Acre Fund because of One Acre Fund’s best prices and in order to have affordable loan repayment. With income from maize sales, Francis will educate his children and invest in livestock rearing.

Francis is the facilitator of the Star A Group. In the photograph above, Francis is pictured with his group members. The person standing far left is the field officer. Francis and his group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program. In 2012, the members of Star A Group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Francis and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.
