A loan of $625 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Chikaze B Group's story

Greetings from Chikaze B Group in Western Kenya! With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Jotham and his group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

Jotham is the facilitator for this group. He is in the photograph with his group members. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program. In 2012, the members of Chikaze B group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

Jotham takes care of six children at home with his wife. He joined One Acre Fund in order to boost his maize production and ensure food security for his family. In the recent 2011 season, Jotham had a very good maize yield harvesting 13 bags on 1 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Jotham was only able to harvest 4 bags of maize on 1 acre of land. With income from maize sales, Jotham will pay for major expenses such as school fees.
