Tamba P.'s Group's story

Meet this group of teachers from a Technical Vocation school in Koidu, a city in Eastern Sierra Leone. They have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone to seek a loan of 7,300,000 Sierra Leonean leones (SLL) in order to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they will repay the loan using their monthly salaries. Their institution’s bursar is directly responsible for doing the deductions and repayments on their behalf.

Tamba is the leader of this group of teachers. He is 42 years of age. Born in Mansudu in Eastern Sierra Leone, Tamba is married and has five children – one in primary school, three in secondary and one grown-up. Tamba has served in the teaching profession for ten years now. He has requested this loan in order to buy food to feed his family and to pay school fees for his children.
