A loan of $525 helped a member to buy farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Amba B Group's story

Greetings from Amba B Group in Western Kenya! Phylis is the facilitator of the Amba B group. This group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Phylis takes care of five children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to have quality maize seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Phylis had an excellent maize yield harvesting 22 bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Ace Fund, Phylis was only able to harvest five bags of maize on one acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Phylis and her group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Phylis will educate her children and invest in livestock rearing.

Phylis is pictured with her group members in the above photograph.
