A loan of $1,025 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Fanya Kazi Group's story

Alice is the facilitator of the Fanya Kazi group. Her group joined Kiva partner One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.
Alice takes care of four children at home. She joined One Acre Fund to eradicate poverty and in order to ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Alice had an excellent maize yield harvesting 22 bags on 1 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Alice was only able to harvest 12 bags of maize on 1 acre of land.
With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Alice and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit, and insurance. With income from maize sales, Alice will educate her children and ensure food security
In 2012, the members of Fanya Kazi group will each plant maize plots between half and 1 acre of land.
