Mama Salone Group's story

Pictured here are members of the “Mama Salone” group from Magburaka, a town in Northern Sierra Leone. They are petty businesspeople who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, in order to seek a loan of 500,000 SLL for each in the group. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profit and consequently improve their living conditions.

The leader of this group of entrepreneurs is Nanah. Nanah was born in Magburaka 35 years ago. She is married and has three children. Her husband is a businessman and her children are attending primary school. Nanah sells rice, cooking oil, pepper, salt, Maggi cubes (used to give sauce a sweet taste), onions, etc. and has been doing business for eight years now. With her share of this loan, she will buy the above-mentioned items in bulk to add to her business inventory.
