Massabong Group's story

Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you the members of the “Massobong” group. They are small-scale businesspeople based in Magburaka, a town in Northern Sierra Leone. They are requesting a loan of 800,000 SLL for each to enable them to further improve on the size and quality of their respective businesses. Pictured on the right is Mohamed, who is the leader of this group. Mohamed was born in Magburaka. He is married to a trader and the couple has six children – three in primary school and three in secondary school. Mohamed sells cigarettes, batteries, soft drinks, etc. and has been doing business for fifteen years now. With his share of the loan, he will expand his business by buying the above-mentioned items in large quantity to add to his business.
