A loan of $450 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Simana C Group's story

Margaret is the facilitator of the Simana C group. Margaret and her group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Margaret takes care of four children at home. She joined One Acre Fund to grow enough to ensure food security for her family and to have additional maize profits to educate her children. In the recent 2011 season, Margaret had a good maize yield harvesting seven bags on ½ acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Margaret was only able to harvest one bag of maize on ½ acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Margaret and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from her maize sales, Margaret will educate her children and invest in raising livestock.

In 2012, the members of Simana C group will each plant maize plots between ½ and 1 acre of land.

Margaret is pictured with her group members in the photograph.
