Graciela's story

Graciela is a member of the communal bank Santa Barbara in the town of Chinumani in the district and province of Yunguyo, in the department of Puna. She is 34 years old, married and has 5 children. She studied until 3rd grade of elementary school.

She has worked with the Movimiento Manuela Ramos for 5 years, and her first loan was for 300 soles and she used the money to invest in her business of selling grains and chuño and tunta [freeze-dried potatoes], potatoes, beans, and barley.

With this new loan in the amount of 1500 soles she will buy 5 sacks of chuño and tunta, potatoes, beans, barley, occa [a root vegetable], and quinoa. These products are sold in the city of Tacna. Her husband is a bricklayer, and he also sells pigs in the town of Yunguyo.
