A loan of $1,000 helped to buy 2 cows and materials for construction such 15 bags of cement, 10 quintals of iron, 1 truckload of sand & 300 bricks.

Flavio's story

Señor Flavio is 58 years old, married and with 3 children. He is a farmer who grows basic grains such as corn. He also works as a day labourer and breeds livestock (cows); he has 6 cows for breeding. He carries out this activiity together with his wife who has more than 20 years of experience in this work. The Flavio family raises cattle and he says that it is a family business.

Flavio has 6 cows and a plot of land where they feed; the land is leased to graze the cows. Before breeding livestock, he was a farmer and worked as a labourer which wasn't very profitable. This is why he changed to breeding and cattle trade.

He buys the livestock at 'tiangues' (a place where animals are sold), in an area 2 kms from the canton to the city. When he buys the cows at the flea markets he takes them home herding down the street.

The loan will be invested in buying 2 cows and materials for construction to continue building his house such 15 bags of cement, 10 quintals of iron, 1 truckload of sand & 300 bricks. With buying 2 dairy cows, his milk production will be greater and more milk will be available to sell. In this way, he will satisfy the current demand for milk and receive a better income which will allow him to improve his standard of living.

Flavio hopes to continue building his brick house as the one he currently has is made of laminate and wooden boards. He also hopes to continue breeding livestock and expand this business.
