A loan of $725 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Twende S.h.g Group's story

Greetings from Twende S.H Group in Western Kenya! Margaret is the facilitator of the Twende S.H group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Margaret takes care of three children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for her family. In the recent 2011 season, Margaret had an excellent maize yield harvesting 18 bags on 1 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Margaret was only able to harvest 8 bags of maize on 1 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Margaret and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Margaret will educate her children, ensure food security and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Twende S.H group will each plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

In this group: Emily, Gerald, Margaret, Miriam, Moses, Ramson, Robert, Swine
