A loan helped a member to source farming inputs such as seeds and fertilizer at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Niinue Group's story

Greetings from Niinue Group in Western Kenya! Norah is the facilitator of the Niinue SHG group. This group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Norah is currently taking care of eight children at home. She joined One Acre Fund in order to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and hire more land for farming. In the recent 2011 season, Norah had an excellent maize yield harvesting 23 bags on 1 acre of land. Before joining One Ace Fund, Norah was only able to harvest 5 bags of maize on 1 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Norah and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Norah will buy a cow, ensure food security and invest in business to ensure education for her children.

In 2012, the members of Niinue SHG group are each preparing to plant between ½ and 1 acre of maize.

In this group: Norah, Sarah, Elizabeth, Cleophas, Rose, Allan, Mary
