A loan of $1,200 helped to buy basic grains, sausages, meat, and soft drinks, etc.

Iris Beronica's story

Iris Beronica, age 38, lives in the rural village of Omoa, Cortes. She is the single mother of three children; ages 8, 14, and 18.

Iris is a very hard-working and well-known person in the village. She has had her grocery store (sells basic needs items like basic grains, meat, sausages, soft drinks, and churros, etc.). She also makes and sells bread, and this generates other income. She works in her business full time from 7:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.

She started her business activity with her own capital. Then she got a loan from another institution in order to buy products. She currently requested this loan from ODEF in order to increase her products by purchasing basic grains, sausages, meat, and soft drinks, etc. Her grocery store is frequented often by her neighbors, and her sales have increased.

She makes sacrifices in this business in order to support her children’s education. She does this because she does not receive help from anyone else.
