A loan of $600 helped a member to buy farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Nambilo A Group's story

Celestine is the facilitator of the Nambilo A group. Celestine and his group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Celestine takes care of four children at home. He joined One Acre Fund due to One Acre Fund's best prices and in order to grow enough to ensure food security for his family. In the recent 2011 season, Celestine had a good maize yield harvesting seven bags on ½ an acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Celestine was only able to harvest three bags of maize on that land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Celestine and his group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Celestine will educate his children and build a house.

In 2012, the members of Nambilo A group will each plant maize plots between ½ and one acre of land.
