A loan of $550 helped a member to source farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Bidii Women Group's story

Rhidah is the facilitator of the Bidii Women's Group. Rhidah and her group joined One Acre Fund in the year 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Rhidah takes care of six children at home. She joined One Acre Fund due to One Acre Fund’s best prices and in order to ensure food security for her family and later educate them. In the recent 2011 season, Rhidah had an excellent maize yield harvesting 16 bags on 1 acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Rhidah was only able to harvest 2 bags of maize on 1 acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Rhidah and her group during Kenya’s next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund’s integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Rhidah will educate her children and invest in livestock rearing.

In 2012, the members of Bidii Women's group will each plant maize plots of between ½ and 1 acre of land.

Rhidah is pictured in the photograph with her group members.
