A loan of $725 helped a member to buy farming inputs, such as seeds and fertilizer, at low prices for the 2012 planting season.

Sango A Group's story

Greetings from Sango A Group in Western Kenya! Francis is the facilitator of the Sango A group. This group joined One Acre Fund in 2011 and will re-enroll in the 2012 program.

Francis takes care of nine children at home. He joined One Acre Fund in order to have additional maize profits to educate his children, and to access fertilizer and hybrid seeds and ensure food security for his family. In the 2011 season, Francis had a very good maize yield harvesting 16 bags on one acre of land. Before joining One Acre Fund, Francis was only able to harvest 10 bags of maize on one acre of land.

With this loan, One Acre Fund will purchase fertilizer, seeds, and other important inputs to distribute to Francis and his group during Kenya's next planting season in February 2012. The distribution of farming inputs is part of One Acre Fund's integrated agriculture package, which includes training, reliable input supply (such as fertilizer and seeds), credit and insurance.

With income from maize sales, Francis will educate his children and ensure food security for his family.

In 2012, the members of Sango A group will each plant between ½ and one acre of maize.

He is pictured in the photograph with his group members.
