Mr. Om, 31, is a loving father of two single children. He lives in Prey Chor district of Kompong Cham province. As shown in the picture, Mr. Om and his wife are working with their rice husking machine under a house. This business activity earns him a good profit because there are many villagers who come to use his services, especially after their harvesting season. This couple is quite busy with farming during the rainy season but in the dry season there will be a lot of work to do as well. Mr. Om hopes to update his living conditions in the near future, so he has made many plans for his family businesses.
Now Om is seeking a loan from HKL, one of Kiva’s partners, to buy a plowing machine. This tool can be used on his own farmland. Moreover, it will make more profit for the family if his neighbors and other villagers want to rent this machine. Om is very thankful to all Kiva’s funders who support his business.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
